Lost Generation (Maybe they are many mistakes, which it was lot worse than previous ones) Jonathan Reed
I realize this may be a shock but "Happiness comes from within." is a lie, and "Money will make me happy." (Isn't the saying the other way way around? That money will make me happy a lie?) So in 30 years I will tell my children they are not the most important thing in my life (Why would the speaker say that? Is the speaker getting rid of them?) My employer will know that I have my priorities straight because (Doesn't care about the family care) work is more important than family (Mostly I tell you this Once upon a time Families stayed together (What happened with "sticking together"? Did they mess up in something?) but this will not be true in my era This is a quick fix society Experts tell me 30 years from now, I will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of my divorce (Why would he be celebrating? I do not concede that I will live in a country of my own making (In making of what?) In the future Environmental destruction will be the norm No longer can it be said that My peers and I care about this earth (Why not?) It will be evident that My generation is apathetic and lethargic It is foolish to presume that There is hope. (Hope in what? To change or to continue?) And all of this will come true unless we choose to reverse it.
Rating:***** Analysis:
In this poem, "Lost Generation", the overall mood of this was selfishness, since the speaker cares only about itself and no one else, since the family really doesn't matter for the speaker anymore. The general theme that I got from this poem was never let money get to you or else the money matters most than anything else. That message stuck out to me because the speaker cares mostly about the money, working and doesn't care about anything else and that is what the speaker is expected to do.
The line that stood out to me in in this poem was when the speaker stated, "I realize this may be a shock but/"Happiness comes from within."/is a lie and/"Money will make me happy." It clearly showed that the speaker really doesn't give a damn about the happiness in life and just wants to make the money to keep him satisfied, like money and the speaker were married in a way, which that's not even possible. Money is just a piece of paper and the speaker is human, so that is not a great combination.
The speaker won't even care about the kids anymore, since the speaker is mostly interested in the money that it receives to make the speaker happy and to live in a luxurious life. In the poem,, the line stated, " So in 30 years I will tell my children/they are not the most important thing in my life." This life from the poem clearly stated that the kids won't matter anymore, just the money, as stated before. I'd say it's a but unfairly, since the kids should be loved, not to be throned aside like they were ragged dolls or something else. Children are human as well. No kid should be treated in that manner.
