You know this is: if I look at the crystal moon, at the red branch of the slow autumn at my window, (admiring the place) if I touch near the fire (I think the speaker doesn't mean it) the impalpable ash or the wrinkled body of the long, everything carries me to you, (Like what things? The winds? The sun?) as if everything that exists, (everything in the world) aromas, light, metals, were little boats that sail towards those isles of yours that wait for me. (Wait for what reason?)
Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall stop loving you little by little. (Letting the feelings pass)
If suddenly you forget me do not look for me, (Why does the speaker state that?) for I shall already have forgotten you. (Maybe it's out of his memory)
If you think it long and mad, (Why being mad?) the wind of banners that passes through my life, (What does the speaker mean?) and you decide to leave me at the shore (Is it a break up?) of the heart where I have roots, remember that on that day, at that hour, (Why remember that day again?) I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. (Why would he see someone else?)
But, if each day, each hour, (Is it to notice the emotions?) you feel that you are destined for me (meant to be together) with implacable sweetness, if each day a flower climbs up to your lips to seek me,( maybe a metaphor) ah my love, ah my own, in me all the fire is repeated, in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten, my love feeds on your loved, beloved, (bring each other together) and as long as you live it will be in your arms without leaving mine. (Like they won't leave each other for anything in the world)
Rating:***** Analysis:
The poem, 'If You Forget Me', the overall tone of this poem is romantic, in which the speaker will do anything for his/her partner. So, it seems that the speaker will do anything for the loved one. The mood in this poem is hopelessly hopeful. Parts of the poem, the speaker felt hopeless but in some parts of the poem, the speaker felt hopeful towards his/her partner. Overall idea is to never stop loving one person.
In depth of the poem, the line stated, 'Well, now,/ if little by little you stop loving me/I shall stop loving you little by little." It showed that the speaker was hopeless for being in love and was telling that if ever stopped loving him/her then the speaker shall do the same thing, to stop loving him/her. It's that simple for the speaker. It looked like it was the only option for the speaker to do or to choose something.
Another thing that can happen to the speaker was about the forgetfulness about the partner. In the line of the poem, it stated, "If suddenly/you forget me/do not look for me/for I shall already have forgotten you." I showed that the speaker must have got rid of many memories of the partner and now, it was stating that to not for him/her, which it was in a helpless manner, which the speaker won't even bother to do anything.
But then, the speaker stated that each day, every hour, him/her will fall in love with the speaker, yet again. In the poem, it stated, "But/if each day/each hour,/you feel that you are destined for me/with implacable sweetness." The speaker might have meant that as time passed, he/she wanted the partner to realize that he/she might have feelings for one person and I guess it meant that they might meant to be together somehow, somewhat and it looked like the speaker was meant to be as one, together.
