Rating:***** Analysis:
In this poem, "Canvas and Mirror", the overall mood of this poem is hopefully amusing because the speaker is mostly talking about the self-portrait of the person, in many good and bad ways that can happen. Every single person has a different self-portrait to the world in general, which everyone is different in a way and they're special. The general idea from this poem is to be yourself and don't let anyone judge you from the way you look.
The speaker was talking about many different portraits of every single little thing. The line that really stood out to me was, "Self-portrait/with guilt, with fear, with thick-banded silver ring,/painted toes, and no make-up on my face." The speaker had stated that it didn't matter how it looked like and the tone that was presented in this line was that it was calm, like he/she didn't even give a damn about anything. So, I guess the poet got one part of the message across, stating that it doesn't matter how the person looks.
Another thing that the poet had mentioned inside the poem was the patience of the person. It sounds weird but it's true story. Some people do have the patience while others, do not have the patience in the world. In the line, it stated, "Self-portrait with patience, with political protest,/with poetry, with papers to grade." In this poem, it stated that the speaker can have the patience in the world for one solitary thing that had been asked and it's different for different reasons. The diction of this poem is very well used and the poet had many different thoughts, in which the speaker had realized the many changes that are around. I guess the speaker got the message across, don't let anyone judge you by the way you are.
