In this poem, "The Fare-well Letters", the overall tone of this poem was very confused, which in the poem, the speaker's tone seemed confused about the things in life and maybe how it was presented. I didn't find the mood of this poem but the general idea that I got from this poem is farewells are difficult to do.
If someone was writing a letter, it is always hard to write every word, thinning about what will be written down and every word counts. In the poem, the line stated, " Make every word count. One. Two." Here the speaker was stating that don't let any words slip out and that the word has to be useful in a way to be written in the letter. I guess the speaker did want to make every word count and not let any words go away.
The speaker may had troubles writing the farewell letter, knowing that something was difficult to do. In the poem, the line stated. Dear ink jet,/black fast. Greasy lightning. Won't smear. Won't rub off." This line was stating that it won't come out of the paper if he/she had written in the paper for the goodbye letter. The diction of the poem was a bit confusing but understandable, since the poet was trying to state that farewells aren't easy as it seemed like.
